FROM HESITATION TO HOPE: HOW THE Y+ HUB SPARKED TWO YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS IN SEKE

  • Helpline
  • 2026

At 23, Morejoy Karebe had big dreams but no clear path. At 30, Loveness Kandiyado had ambition but little belief in herself. Both living in Seke Rural district. Both wanted to build something of their own. And both felt stuck.

Their challenges were different, but the result was the same: stalled potential.

Morejoy was introverted and unsure of himself. He avoided social interactions and struggled to approach potential customers or partners. He had never learned how to budget properly or plan a business. Without those basics, his ideas stayed just that, ideas. Loveness faced a different battle. She didn't know what kind of business to start. Her communication challenges, short temper, and stubbornness made it hard to work with others or seek advice. She doubted her own ability to succeed. Over time, that doubt turned into hopelessness.

Neither of them lacked potential. They lacked support, skills, and confidence.

A Turning Point

Everything began to change when they joined the Y+ Hub skills programme, implemented by Youth Advocates. The programme focuses on Entrepreneurship and Vocational Skills Development. It offers more than training, It offers hope and direction to young people. For the first time, Morejoy and Loveness sat in rooms with experienced entrepreneurs who shared real stories about starting small, making mistakes, and learning from them. They received hands-on mentorship. They learned how to create simple budgets, track expenses, and plan for growth. They were also trained in baking and this practical skill opened a clear and realistic business opportunity for them. Instead of vague plans, they now had something concrete to build on.

Growth Beyond Skills

The impact went deeper than business knowledge.

Morejoy slowly stepped out of his shell. Group discussions and mentorship sessions helped him practice speaking up and interacting with others. Today, he is noticeably more sociable and confident. He engages with clients and peers without fear. For a young man who once avoided conversations, this is a powerful shift. Loveness experienced her own transformation. Through coaching and peer engagement, she began to reflect on her communication style. She is actively working on listening more and managing her temper. Most importantly, she now has clarity. She has chosen a business direction and is taking practical steps to grow it. Both have begun investing in their baking ventures and are delivering products to clients. There have been delays and challenges, but unlike before, setbacks no longer stop them. They adjust, learn, and move forward.

Morejoy and Loveness represent many young people who are not short on ambition, but short on opportunity and guidance. The Y+ Skills Hub programme did not simply teach them how to bake or calculate a budget. It helped them see themselves differently. It turned hesitation into action. It replaced hopelessness with possibility.

When young people receive mentorship, practical training, and consistent support, they do not just start businesses. They rebuild their confidence, strengthen their communities, and create new economic opportunities.

Today, in Seke Rural district, two young entrepreneurs are rewriting their futures. With continued support, their small businesses can grow, create jobs, and inspire others to believe that success is within reach.
